Val de Saire

Val de Saire

In the Cotentin region, world-famous tourist sites – such as Tatihou, the Vauban Towers, listed as a World Heritage Site, and the Gatteville lighthouse, France’s second tallest – rub shoulders with more confidential ones, such as the Valley of the 9 Mills. Gourmets and connoisseurs of fine produce will be familiar with the Saint-Vaast oyster and the Barfleur mussel. The Val de Saire is also Basse-Normandie’s leading vegetable producer. And then there’s the golden brioche at Le Vast, for which regulars flock.

From Le Vast, make your way to Quettehou, pronounced “Quet’hou”. This charming village is a must before reaching the port of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. Unless you first head for Saint-Pierre-Eglise – where you’ll find a few menhirs – and Barfleur. Wherever you go in the Val de Saire, you’ll appreciate just how rich it is. Its soil, its history, its people.
