Located in Cherbourg, Normandy, La Cité de la Mer is a unique place that invites you to plunge into the heart of the oceans. A genuine tourist and cultural leisure park, our site is home to several exhibition trails, including “The Ocean of the Future” with its impressive Abyssal Aquarium, one of the deepest in Europe. With its 17 tanks, the aquarium offers a fascinating immersion in marine biodiversity.

Come aboard the Le Redoutable submarine!
Discover Le Redoutable, France’s first nuclear submarine and flagship of the French Navy! Commissioned in 1971, this 128-meter giant can be visited at La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg. Immerse yourself in the daily life of her crew thanks to an immersive 35-minute audio-guided tour (ages 5 and up).
The world’s largest visitable submarine. At 128 meters long, it offers an exceptional exploration of the living spaces of submariners, such as the engine room, command post and crew cabins, thanks to an audio-guided tour on board. This 8,000-ton giant of the seas embodies the strategic history of the French Navy.
