Arromanches

113 km from campsite

1h30 from Le Grand Large campsite in La Manche, Arromanches is a major site in the Battle of Normandy. The site was liberated on the evening of June 6. It is still possible to see the remains of the large artificial harbour, a true masterpiece of engineering, designed to facilitate the landing of thousands of soldiers, as well as the huge hollow concrete “Phoenix” caissons that served as breakwaters. A visit rich in emotions to understand the decisive events that sealed the fate of France and discover the history of the D-Day landings during a weekend camping trip in Normandy or a longer stay in the Manche.

For the curious and history buffs who want to understand the decisive role of the famous artificial port, the campsite suggests a visit to the Arromanches Landing Museum opposite Gold Beach (animated and 3D models, photos, archive films…).
Relive “The 100 Days of Normandy” thanks to Arromanches 360, a 9-screen circular cinema that plunges visitors into the heart of the Battle of Normandy through archive images, many of them never seen before. (19-minute screenings every half-hour).
