Mont-Saint-Michel

Campsite near Mont-Saint-Michel

The bay and Mont Saint Michel are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s also a village, an abbey and a museum.

Just a 2-hour drive from our campsite in the Manche department, discover Mont-Saint-Michel, the Norman island built in honor of the archangel Saint-Michel. It lies at the heart of an immense bay invaded by the highest tides in Europe. First listed as a Monument Historique, then as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mont-Saint-Michel, once a spiritual land, now attracts over three million visitors every year, making it the most popular tourist site in Normandy.

The focal point of Mont-Saint-Michel is the abbey, around which the village has been built since 709. A monument of international renown, Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey has many rooms that can be visited freely. From the abbey, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the bay, dominated by the statue of Saint-Michel at the top of the church, 170 metres above sea level. The Grande Rue du rocher invites you to indulge in gourmet delights and souvenirs, as well as history, through its museums and 15th- and 16th-century houses.

Now linked to the bay by a footbridge, and just a hundred kilometers from our 5-star campsite in Normandy, Mont-Saint-Michel offers many ways to reach the rock: on foot along the 3 footpaths offering a unique view of the bay and the mountain, by shuttle bus or, more atypically, in the “la Maringote” horse-drawn carriage pulled by two horses. Discover the site as the pilgrims of old did.
